In the latest episode of KPop Star, Fil-Am contestant Chrisha Choo was put in a team with Lee Soo Min, another judges’ favorite, to compete in a survival round.
Their performance was strong and charismatic with their rendition of Bangtan Sonyeondan’s “Blood Sweat & Tears” and Blackpink’s “Playing With Fire”, followed by a powerful dance collaboration.
They competed against contestants Hye Rim and Ga Rin, who, on the other hand, did not receive favorable reviews from the judges. Hye Rim and Ga Rin’s concept was cute and lively, and they were praised by the judges.
However, Chrisha’s team fell short of the judges’ expectations.
Judge Park Jin Young pointed out how important it is for a group’s concept to match the people or idols in the group, and noted that hip hop and dark themes did not fit them well as vocalists. “Vocalists and idols are different things,” he said.
Judge Yoo Hui Yeol agreed with the rest of the judges that in terms of performances, the team may have very well lost. But the team’s saving grace is their star factor.
“The moment your performance ended, I marveled [at] how impressive you were,” Hee Yeol said, to which judge Yang Hyun Suk also agreed, saying that by watching them on stage at the moment, Chrisha Choo and Lee Soo Min already seemed like they were actual stars.
Is the star factor enough to save them?
