In 2016, “Deadpool” triggered profound admiration from Marvel fans and secured a milestone as the highest-grossing X-Men movie.
Well, the blockbuster motion picture bagged another “award.” The film starring Ryan Reynolds earned the tag as the most illegally downloaded flick in 2016, according to data compiled by TorrentFreak. Millions of internet users downloaded “Deadpool” in February, and in the succeeding months, thousands continued to stream the film from pirated sites.
Other box-office hits that made the list included “Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Captain America: Civil War.” International top-grossing films “Suicide Squad,” “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “Finding Dory” also made it to the top 10.
BACKSTORY: ‘Deadpool’ is an R-rated riot
After a terse stint in the 2009 action flick “X-Men: Origins,” Deadpool, who is also known as “Merc with a Mouth” because he is talkative, landed his very own title role in February 2016. It was the seventh-highest-grossing film in 2016 with $783 million (P38 billion) in global revenues.
Due to its cinema glory, a “Deadpool 2” is up in the works with Reynolds reprising the badmouthed antihero. The film’s production is slated for summer of this year, and its first theatrical screening is scheduled on March 2, 2018. Gianna Francesca Catolico
