Lemuel Lorca’s “Ned’s Project” won Best Asian-Pacific Feature Film at the Equality International Film Festival, held recently in Sacramento, California. The best picture winner in this year’s CineFilipino fest, “Ned’s Project” tells the story of a lesbian tattoo artist (played by CineFilipino best actress Angeli Bayani) who yearns to get pregnant.
Lorca told the Inquirer: “I am always appreciative of any recognition given to my films.” He wishes to share the honor with his “parents and family—at home and on the set.” “This is a reward not only for myself, but also for my hardworking team.”
The festival aims to “promote the efforts of talented and impassioned filmmakers in their pursuit to create films that encourage equality and the basic rights of minorities and the oppressed and voiceless members of the American and global communities.”
The fest is described as “one of the largest film festivals on the West Coast that speaks out against economic and social inequity.” —BAYANI SAN DIEGO JR.
