Tom Holland’s version of everyone’s favorite creepy crawler was well received by fans during his brief appearance in “Captain America: Civil War” last April.
With Marvel finally owning exclusive rights to the character, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) welcomes the web-slinging Peter Parker into the foray, with his own standalone film, “Spider-Man: Homecoming.”
The first trailer for the highly anticipated reboot debuted on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Thursday (Friday in Manila), which begins with Spidey going against a bunch of thieves wearing Avengers’ masks.
The teen’s youthful exuberance was on full on display as he effortlessly beat up the robbers, while remaining baffled by his powers afterwards.
As expected, the trailer offers glimpses of him perching on tall buildings and highlights his normal life as a kid in high school.
The clip also offered a brief tease of his possible involvement with the Avengers, as he was seen taking advice from none other than Iron Man himself, Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.)
“I know you want to save the world, but you’re not ready yet,“ Stark told Parker in a voice-over. “Stay close to the ground and stay out of trouble.”
In a comical scene, the self-proclaimed genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist leaned over to open the door for Spidey, which he mistakenly assumed was a hug.
The two-minute clip also teased a closer look at the villainous Adrian Toomes/Vulture played by Michael Keaton.
By the looks of things, “Homecoming” will not delve into Spidey’s backstory, which was depicted in earlier versions with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in the lead.
Jon Watts’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming”—which also features Marisa Tomei as Parker’s aunt May and John Favreau reprising his role as Happy Hogan in the MCU films—will swing to cinemas on July 7, 2017. Khristian Ibarrola
