To celebrate its 20th birthday, Japanese smash-hit anime series “Cardcaptor Sakura” is making a huge comeback on TV with a sequel entitled “Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Arc.”

The series will unfold Sakura Kinomoto’s first year of junior high school after graduating from Tomoeda Elementary School. Likewise, the original director of the “Cardcaptor Sakura” series, Morio Asaka, will spin the reel and direct the sequel, Anime News Network reported. The young heroine dreamt a dream and a shocking incident takes place.

Some of the original cast members will return to reprise their roles, including Sakura Tange (Sakura Kinomoto), Aya Hisakawa (Keroberos) and Junko Iwao (Tomoyo Daidoji). Other characters such as Tomoyo, Li Syaoran and Yukito will be back, making it a nostalgic reunion after a 15-year hiatus.

Fans will sight Sakura and her friends at NHK in January 2018. Meanwhile, manga group Clamp published the series in Nakayoshi last June.

The “Cardcaptor Sakura” series ran in manga magazine “Nakayoshi” from 1996 to 2000, while Madhouse aired the TV series from 1998 to 2000. The film “Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie” was shown in Japanese theaters in 1999 and its spinoff movie “Cardcaptor Sakura: The Sealed Card” a year later. Gianna Francesca Catolico
