“What if God was one of us, just a slob like one of us,” so goes the old ’90s song. Well, if Jesus were here on earth in human form, apparently He’d be slumming it up with BFF Buddha somewhere in Tokyo, according to the song. With the holy duo’s “misadventures” proving to be a big hit, producers have started making a live-action adaptation.
“Saint Young Men (Saint Onii-san)” is a popular long-running manga series that features Jesus Christ and Gautama Buddha living out a meager existence in suburban Tachikawa, Tokyo. A critical and commercial success, the series has already spawned several anime adaptations including an OVA series and two feature films released in 2013.
RocketNews 24 reports that news of the live-action adaptation was announced in a full-page ad in the latest issue of Kodansha’s Morning Two magazine. This magazine also serializes the manga series. No other information were made available, but it was hinted that additional details would be released in the magazine on Dec. 22. Alfred Bayle
