After the success of the E! reality series about a local show biz family, “It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez,” the cable channel recently launched the docuseries, “!t Girls,” which is being touted as “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” meets “Sex and the City.”
“!t Girls,” which airs Mondays at 8 p.m., features a quartet of stylish Filipino women: VJ-model Georgina Wilson, actresses Isabelle Daza and Solenn Heussaff, and celebrity stylist Liz Uy.
The new show, according to NBC Universal Asia’s VP of channels, Scott Mackenzie, can be compared to the aforementioned Western shows. “[There’s] close-knit friendship shared by these four ladies [who have an] A-list celebrity lifestyle,” Mackenzie told the Inquirer.
“The high-production quality of ‘!t Girls’ makes it look as good as a US show. These, combined with the [stature] of Georgina, Solenn, Isabelle and Liz—they have 17 million social media followers between them—will make the series a hit with local viewers.”
The “Gutz” show, which has had four seasons to date, is also closely connected to “!t Girls,” Mackenzie added. “Georgina brought up the idea—from being a reality TV star to a reality TV director, Raymond Gutierrez also gives the ‘!t Girls’ a familiar, friendly figure they can relate to. We thought it would be fantastic.”
Aside from the Philippines, “!t Girls” is being aired in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. And other than a glimpse into these BFFs’ lives, there will be appearances by their husbands, as well Diaz’s mom, Gloria, and Heussaff’s brother, Erwan.
“Through this series, fans can see the women outside of their glamorous celebrity personas… behind the social media lenses and tabloid headlines,” explained Mackenzie. “It gives fans a fresh perspective of their idols that may not have been shared on social media platforms.”
Wilson, one of the featured women, related that she loved being able to see her friends “all the time.” The Filipino-British celeb, currently seven months pregnant, enthused: “Our schedules are always packed with work, so the best solution is to work together to see each other. I’m so excited about how the show is showing our amazing relationships.”
Filming the series strengthened those bonds further, she reiterated: “I’m so close to each of them in different ways. Belle (Isabelle’s nickname) is family, a cousin, so that’s always going to be different. Liz and Solenn are our ‘chosen family,’ so I love them in a special way!”
One of the “exclusive” details to be revealed is the gender of Wilson’s child with hotelier husband, Arthur Burnard.
