TV mogul Oprah Winfrey clarified her disruptive tweet about the results of the American elections after many Twitter users snarled at her for “supporting” President-elect Donald Trump.
“Everybody take a deep breath! #HopeLives!” she tweeted on Friday about Trump’s meeting with outgoing President Barack Obama.
During a premiere of Ava DuVernay’s Netflix documentary “13th” on Monday, Winfrey opened up about her contentious post on the social networking site. “This is the second time I’ve had tweet troubles,” she said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “And it’s the same lesson, so Jesus, I hear you. You don’t have to tell me again.”

Moreover, Winfrey, 62, compared Trump and Obama’s face-off to “Thrilla in Manila,” the widely celebrated boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier held at the Araneta Coliseum in 1975. “I remember having this feeling with Thrilla in Manila,” she said, mentioning that she felt heart palpitations while watching the event on television.
Despite the escalating unrest following Trump’s victory, Winfrey raised her hopes for positive reforms in the country. “I was expecting tension, awkwardness and strain. So when I saw them sitting together, I actually took a picture of the screen that said ‘President-elect Trump honored to meet Obama.’ And President Obama was being so gracious, and I heard Donald Trump say, ‘He’s a good man.’ I heard Donald Trump say, ‘I’m going to be seeking his counsel,’” Winfrey said.
She added, “My mistake, and this is what I know to be true: you can never talk about everybody. Even in your arguments with your husband and your children. Don’t talk about what you should do, what you ought to do – you can only speak for yourself. So what I should have said was, ‘I just took a breath.’ What I said was, ‘Everybody take a breath ‘– #HopeLives.” Gianna Francesca Catolico
