WATCH: Chris Evans goes dramatic in ‘Gifted’
We’re used to seeing Chris Evans clad in stars and stripes while trying to save the word, but his superhero persona will take a backseat in this upcoming film “Gifted.”
The 35-year-old American actor will portray Frank Adler, a man who seeks the custody of his late sister’s intellectually gifted daughter.
As seen in the film’s two-and-a-half minute trailer, Evans’ character is looking to provide a normal life for her seven-year-old niece, Mary (McKenna Grace) before her teacher Bonnie Stevenson (Jenny Slate) discovers her cognitive prowess.
Things take a dramatic turn when his estranged mother, Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan), comes into the picture and wants to adopt Mary in order to “maximize her potential.”
The must-see tearjerker film also marks the beginning of a supposed real-life romance between Evans and his co-star Slate.

He’s a giant man with huge muscles and he’s Captain America. How could we ever connect?'” Slate said. “[But] the first night that we hung out, I was like, ‘Wow, I could hang out with Chris for, like, 90 hours.'”
Evans, meanwhile, seemed to share the same sentiment about Slate. “Oddly enough, I’ve only known Jenny for a few months, which is insane to say because we’re like the same animal,” he said.
The upcoming dram film is helmed by “500 Days of Summer” director Marc Webb and will also feature Octavia Spencer in a supporting role.
