WATCH: Actor Idris Elba wins kickboxing match at age 44
At age 44, English actor Idris Elba remains one of the most sought-after leading men due to his acting chops and great looks.
Over the weekend, “The Wire” star tried a different path and made a successful kickboxing debut at London’s York Hall—winning via an impressive knockout in less than two minutes.
Elba, who’s also a part-time DJ and musician, has reportedly been training across the globe, as part of a three-fold documentary series that delves into the roots of muay Thai (Thai kickboxing).
The series, entitled “Idris Elba: Fighter,” is expected to air in early 2017 on the Discovery Channel.

The seasoned actor also detailed his experiences and assured fans that his fights are indeed for real.
“It has been my dream to fight in a ring properly,” he was quoted as saying in a Daily Telegraph Australia report. “It is not fake, I might get hurt but ultimately I have trained for it and I like to fight. I’ve busted my nose a couple of times but hopefully it doesn’t show. Keeping fit is important to me as part of my work and I always used to train back in the day as just a kickboxer before I was acting and now I am on this massive journey.”
The Instagram clip of Elba’s fight, meanwhile, was uploaded by popstar Madonna, which sparked speculations that the pair must be dating.
Elba quickly shot down the rumors with a short tweet. Khristian Ibarrola
