A clip of Hugh Jackman’s last venture as the iconic Wolverine was finally teased on Thursday (Friday in Manila).
The third and final stand-alone film featuring the clawed mutant shows an aesthetic shift from the character’s previous glory days.
“Logan” starts off with the titular character looking noticeably old and frail, as he struggles with life in a world where most mutants were gone.
The once indestructible force is seen with huge scars on his back while struggling to put his shirt on after losing most of his strength and regenerative abilities.
A much older Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) is also shown, while the video’s gloomy theme is more amplified by the tone of Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” in the background.
The biggest reveal, meanwhile, is the debut of a young mutant girl, presumed to be the female clone of Logan, Laura Kinney, better known as X-23. Her appearance in the film signals Jackman’s eminent departure from the franchise, which could now be succeeded by Dafne Keen’s character.
“Narcos” star Boyd Hollbrook was also featured as the film’s primary villain, Donald Pierce.
The film, which got an R-rated rating, is loosely based on the 2008 comic “Old Man Logan.” Jackman and director James Mangold have been tweeting promotional images of the film on their respective accounts.
