Sigourney Weaver joins Marvel series

Sigourney Weaver will play a villain in “Marvel’s The Defenders,” scheduled to stream on Netflix next year. Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Krysten Ritter (Jessica Jones), Mike Colter (Luke Cage) and Finn Jones (Iron Fist) will star in the series. The “non-team” in the comics included members such as Dr. Strange, Silver Surfer, the Hulk and Sub-Mariner.

 ‘Dory’ swims past $1B mark

Disney-Pixar’s “Finding Dory” has crossed the global $1B box-office mark. The sequel to 2003’s “Finding Nemo” follows the misadventures of forgetful fish Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres), who searches for her long-lost parents. The original film grossed over $940M worldwide.

‘Riverdale’ to feature darker ‘Archie’ tale

Set to debut early next year, the TV series “Riverdale” isn’t a bright and sunny live-action adaptation of the “Archie” comics. Starring KJ Apa as Archie Andrews and Luke Perry as his dad Fred, the show will be an angsty, moody interpretation in the vein of “Twin Peaks,” but will still include the most popular characters from the long-running line of American comic books.

Alden Richards’ diamond album

A year after its release, Alden Richards’ second album, “Wish I May,” has achieved diamond status, making the actor one of the best-selling recording artists in the local music industry.

Based on standards currently used by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry (Pari), the group that gives recording certifications, an album has to sell at least 150,000 copies to get the distinction. (The target number used to be as high as 400,000.)

The Kapuso actor’s eponymous debut record, on the other hand, earlier reached platinum status (15,000 copies). Alden has also just released his third collection, “Say It Again.” —O. PULUMBARIT, A. POLICARPIO
