When Ogie Alcasid claimed, “ayokong tumanda” during his 2-day birthday concert last August 26 and 27, those who watched agreed in unison.
It was a smooth and lively storytelling of how ageless one can feel through music. As expected, Ogie was in tip-top form dishing out his signature tunes – his early hits like “Dito Sa Puso Ko”, “Ako’y Iyong Iyo” and “Sa Kanya”. Some of these songs were mashed up with current pop hits for that millennial feel.
Standing out on their own were his guest performers rock Icon Basti Artadi, Classical Sweethheart Lara Maigue and Acousitic Wiz Davey Langit, all of whom are talents of Ogie’s management company ATeam. They joined forces together with Ogie for a medley of anthemic OPM classics.
Ogie’s tribute Rico J. Puno, one of his musical idols as a child, was done in a unique way. He was joined by 2 of Eat Bulaga’s “Lola’s Playlist” winners, Francis Aglabtin and Benedict Aboyme. The diminutive boys rendered the songs like there was no tomorrow.
Another of the show’s highlights were the moments he shared the stage with his wife, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid. After dishing out a medley of movie and TV themes written by Ogie, the couple remained onstage in a banter that gave the crowd an insight on how they are as a couple off-stage… and why their marriage works.
For those who missed the show, there will be another chance! “AYOKONG TUMANDA… THE REPEAT” is happening on October 15, 2016 at the Music Museum. The concert is directed by Floy Quintos. Expect as well a special collaboration performance of the very recently launched Inquirer Jingle – written by Davey, and sung by Lara, Basti, Davey and Ogie.
