A frank and tough-talking Demi Lovato is taking a one-year respite from her burgeoning musical career.
On Wednesday, the “Body Say” singer, 24, tweeted, “So excited for 2017. Taking a break from music and the spotlight…I am not meant for this business and the media,” she said.

In an explicit reply to one of her fans, Lovato said she wanted to devote her time and efforts to charity institutions. She co-owns CAST Centers, the rehabilitation and wellness institution where she was confined in 2013 for substance abuse, bulimia and depression.

On Tuesday, the Disney alumnus faced social media backlash over two issues. In an interview with Glamour magazine, Lovato lashed out at Taylor Swift’s buddies for “tearing Katy Perry down” with Swift’s 2014 hit “Bad Blood,” which was rumored to target Swift’s feud with Perry. Also, Lovato criticized a Romanian artist’s drawing of her for its “unrealistic” depiction of her breasts and body. Her comments drew ire and concern from her fans. Gianna Francesca Catolico
