Kate Navasero and Martin Jimenez have been in an on-again, off-again relationship for over 10 years. Kate works as an editorial assistant, while Martin is an illustrator, computer game designer and cosplayer—he belongs to a group called Popsicle.

Over a year ago, Kate gave birth to their baby girl, Audrey. The preparation for the wedding was exciting for all of us. Kate’s sister and best friend, Amanda, was her maid of honor, as was their eldest sister, Julia.

Her nephew, Tyler, held the bible, while Kert, their youngest sibling, was a groomsman. We got Kate’s royal blue gown at Carolina’s in Glorietta 4, but designer Edgar Allan did most of our outfits.

Two nights before the wedding, Amanda announced that she booked a suite for all of us at Dusit Thani Hotel—it was a big room for the five of us!

The wedding took place last Sept. 3 at the Mary Help of Christians Church at Better Living Subdivision.

Principal sponsors included Gloria Dominguez Garcia, Nie Nie Barretto Buenaflor, Rae Aranda Guinto and Kate’s baptismal godmother, Hazel Navasero de Padua, who came all the way from UP Los Baños with my brother, Ding, who marched to the altar with Kate. Baby Audrey was behind her mom.

There were 120 guests at the reception, catered by Alba’s at Kristina’s Garden. The evening was made lovelier by the performance of singer Isabela, who sang “La Vie en Rose” in French and English.

Travels

When I was asked to deliver a speech as the mother of bride, I told the audience that I taught my children to love reading. They joined me in my travels here and abroad. My love for them has not dissipated through the years. I’ve often told them to take life one step at a time, and to do things the right way.

Fe Zamora, who knew Kate when she was still a baby, said that it was a touching ceremony. I am glad that Kate and Martin found soulmates in each other!
