‘Fifty Shades Darker’ outstrips ‘Star Wars’ in trailer views

Christian Grey and Anastacia Steele’s steamy scenes have overpowered the Stormtroopers’ combat skills.

The sensuous official trailer for “Fifty Shades Darker” has gone insanely viral with 114 million views in just 24 hours, Universal Studios said. This dethroned current record-holder “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which had 112 million views in April.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film trailer’s massive views is a sum of the views from several social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Within the trailer’s first hour on Facebook, it received 2.5 million views.

Likewise, the “Fifty Shades Darker” trailer was viewed 29.4 million times in the US and Canada and 74.6 million views in 32 other countries including France, Mexico and the UK.

Dakota Johnson (Anastacia Steele) and Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey) reprise their roles in the film based on E.L. James’ second novel in the blockbuster “Fifty Shades” trilogy. The first film, “Fifty Shades of Grey,” grossed more than $571 million (74 billion PHP) globally in 2015.
