Lovi Poe
Lovi Poe sometimes finds it hard to let go of a character even after the director shouts, “Cut”—especially if she commits to that character’s compelling journey. But it’s something that actors should learn, she enthuses:
“You have to know when to stop. Years ago, I was so into a role I was playing that it took me a while to realize I was ‘turning’ into her. I got carried away—and my manager told me to snap out of it.”
But Lovi says it isn’t that easy to drop character when you love portraying her—like Joanna, the doting wife she plays in the GMA 7 teleserye, “Someone to Watch Over Me.” Joanna’s biggest burden is seeing her Alzheimer’s disease-stricken hubby “disintegrate and vanish” right before her very eyes.
Would Lovi go the extra mile for the man she loves? “It’s a case-by-case basis. Joanna is devoted to her husband, TJ (played by Tom Rodriguez). But sometimes, people surprise themselves by doing things they never thought they’d do for the people they love. “There was a time in my past that I certainly [kept pushing] because I thought the relationship was worth saving. But I had to let go, eventually, because I wanted more room to grow as a person. When I realized that [the situation] was stopping me from growing, I knew it was time to let go.” Rito P. Asilo
