SWV, TLC shows in Manila

AMERICAN R&B groups SWV (left) and TLC will perform at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in November.

TLC and SWV, two of the most important R&B girl groups during the 1990s, will hold a back-to-back concert on Nov. 6 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, according to promoter MMI Live (tickets go on sale on Sept. 17; call 911-5555).

Originally a trio, TLC performs now as a duo, with its members, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, soldiering on after the tragic death of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in 2002.

The band, which is behind the hits, “Creep,” “Waterfalls” and “No Scrubs,” is known for their sassy, hip-hop-infused ditties.

SWV, on the other hand, is more focused on vocals and is known for the velvety harmonies of its jams, such as “Weak,” “Right Here” and “I’m So into You.”

The trio is composed of Cheryl “Coko” Gamble, Tamara “Taj” Johnson and Leanne “Lelee” Lyons.  Allan Policarpio
