Seasoned ABS-CBN reporter Atom Araullo has resigned from his reporting duties in the top television network’s TV Patrol and Bandila.
A statement from Araullo officially confirmed his resignation, which was circulating on social media. Araullo said in the statement that he “quietly” resigned as a news reporter of ABS-CBN “a few weeks ago to explore other areas of media and to grow as a journalist.”
Earlier, there were speculations about Araullo’s reason for resigning, foremost of which was his allegedly “biased” opinions on certain political issues including the burial of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (heroes’ cemetery) on his Twitter account, which received criticisms on social media.
Saying he would continue to work with ABS-CBN and its other programs, Araullo said his political views “were not a factor” in making his decision to resign as a reporter.
His resignation, however, was applauded by many other netizens, who said it was a courageous and dignified move by a media practitioner with firm convictions.
