Ken Barrie, the remarkable voice behind popular children’s show “Postman Pat,” passed away at 83 on Friday.
Barrie’s daughter, Lorraine Hulme Peterson, said that the voice actor died peacefully at home in Denham, Buckinghamshire, UK, after losing a battle with liver cancer, according to local media reports.
Peterson said in a heartwarming tribute, “He was the master of different characters and voices. He was very reserved about what he did, but he loved it and got to work with his heroes.”
Barrie, whose real name is Leslie Hulme, was born in Tunstall on Jan. 3, 1943. He previously worked at Embassy Records under the name of Les Carle. He was also the famous voice behind the show’s theme song, which spent weeks in top music billboards.
Barrie shared his amazing voice talent to many characters in the 31 episodes of “Postman Pat” between 1981 and 2005. He voiced Postman Pat himself, the episode’s narrator, and other supporting characters. Also, he worked on “Postman Pat: Special Delivery Service” in 2008, The Guardian and BBC reported.
