RONWALDO Martin and Hasmine Killip in “Pamilya Ordinaryo”
EDUARDO Roy Jr.’s “Pamilya Ordinaryo” will compete in the 13th Venice Days fest in Italy from Aug. 31 to Sept. 10. According to Variety, Venice Days, which is an autonomous event mounted during the Venice Film Festival, is “patterned after the prestigious Directors’ Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival.”
Producer Ferdinand Lapuz relates that Roy’s film is the first Filipino production to make it to Venice Days, which is supported by organizations spearheaded by Italian filmmakers and authors (Associazione Nazionale Autori Cinematografici or Anac and 100autori).
The fest aims “to draw attention to high-quality cinema… [while focusing on] innovation, research, originality and independence.”
It also endeavors to be an “alternative to the [main festival’s] official areas—[providing] an ideal and informal venue for authors, producers, distributors and journalists to meet and discuss ideas.”
An entry in this year’s Cinemalaya, “Pamilya Ordinaryo” follows two teenage street hustlers as they search for their kidnapped baby. It is Roy’s third time to compete in Cinemalaya, after “Bahay Bata” and “Quick Change.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
