TYLER Henry
WE’VE written about “Hollywood Medium” before, but its new season evinces substantial developments that merit a follow-up “re-view”:
In only a few months, the show’s young host, Tyler Henry, has noticeably grown up more—and has been further mentored, styled and “made over” to more clearly look like the star of his program.
After all, it required him to help other show biz luminaries “connect” with their deceased loved ones, and arrive at instructive and telling insights from the unique interaction.
On the show’s first season on “E!,” Henry looked really young and even nerdy—like an older version of Macaulay Culkin in “Home Alone.” Now, he looks more confident, “put-together” and in charge of things.
He still jots down notes on the small notebook he constantly carries to all of his home visit sessions—which sustains the bookishness or nerdiness in his projection.
But, he’s more loquacious now and engages his subjects in more detailed conversations about their past experiences and relationships with their absent loved ones.
On a recent telecast, however, Henry unexpectedly “lost control” of the reading and séance for quite a long while, because a starlet’s dead relation became too agitated and insistent about being heard from instantly.
The young medium trembled and broke into sweat, and viewers were worried that he wouldn’t be able to cope with the overly insistent intrusion.
But, Henry proved to be a genuine professional, and didn’t allow the psychic intruder to get her way, so the session still ended well.
However, the unexpected “inner struggle” indicated to viewers that the show and its resident medium could sometimes go deeper and darker than planned, so it shouldn’t be seen as just a diverting, “one-step-beyond” lark.
Indeed, the world beyond this one is relatively uncharted, and thus possibly fraught with “unexpected” surprises or even threats that can’t be cluelessly or breezily ignored.
Yes, the show makes it a point to insist that its televised sessions are “for entertainment only”—but, some spirited spirits out there may disagree!
Another “next-step-up” development on “Hollywood Medium” is the improvement in its guest list—from the first season’s sometimes “who’s that?” level of starlets, to comparatively bigger luminaries now, like Boy George and NeNe Leakes.
If the program becomes even more popular this year, could Angelina Jolie and her own “transitioned” relations eventually grace the show with their physical and surreal presence?
Now, that would be a must-see telecast, given Jolie’s famously phantasmagoric paranormal bent!
The Boy George session was unusual in its own right, because it turned out that the recent Manila visitor doesn’t believe in life beyond death!
Perhaps without meaning to, he gave Henry a really tough time—and the teen medium was sure relieved when the stressful session was finally over!
Why did Boy George agree to the interview in the first place? Well, stars will (quirkily) be stars—and Henry is learning how to cope with all of them!
