A great story ought to be retold. Just like GMA 7’s 2005 hit fantaserye, “Encantadia” (the remake premieres tonight (July 18) and will air weeknights on the Telebabad block). It’s been 11 years since the highly acclaimed saga captured the hearts of Pinoys.
The reboot is set to wow the audience even more with all its elements on a grander scale.
Portraying the four Sang’gres are Glaiza de Castro as Pirena, Gabbi Garcia as Alena, Sanya Lopez as Danaya and Kylie Padilla as Amihan.
Some “Encantadia” evening, you may see a Sang’gre across a crowded room and somehow you know…that somehow you’ll see them again and again.
“Encantadia” is definitely fiercer the second time around.
Here’s my chat with the four Sang’gres.
Glaiza
What do you remember most about the first “Encantadia?”
Its ethereal elements; very out of this world setting and characters. I was just 15 then.
What stands out about your struggling days?
Living in a poor district where even just going home safely was a hassle because of addicts on the street…getting stranded in our car, which was leaking.
If you had to choose between love and career, which would it be?
Love because career comes and goes. Glory days will eventually be over, but love is everlasting.
Would you consider moving to another station?
Loyalty pays off. I’m forever grateful to GMA 7, so I am staying put….
Kylie
What excites you most about being part of “Encantadia?”
The dynamics of the four Sang’gres being sisters in the story…how they overcome their struggles, and their love for each other. I have three sisters, so I can relate to the story; it makes me miss my sisters, who are in Australia.
What’s the craziest thing you and your dad (Robin Padilla) did together?
Too many to mention. But the ultimate one is when we climbed a mountain called King’s Canyon in Australia when I was 12.
It was a big deal for me, because I did it for Papa. He was so proud of me because I was the youngest in the group who finished the climb.
How is your relationship with your father’s wife Mariel Rodriguez, and how do you feel that she and your dad are expecting a baby?
We have a mature relationship. At first, it was awkward, but now I can talk to her about business and the things I find hard to tell Papa, I relay through her.
I’m happy for both of them, especially for Tita Mariel, because I know it’s a dream come true for her to become a mother.
What was the biggest mistake you made for love?
Sharing my breakup with the whole world.
Gabbi
How are you preparing for your role in “Encantadia?”
Exercise and diet, so I will look good in my costume. I watched the first “Encantadia” on iflix so I’ll know my character Alena deeper.
In what stage is your special friendship with Ruru Madrid?
Extremely close. If there’s one person I would run to, other than my family, it’s Ruru. I trust him that much.
Sanya
Are you more excited or nervous about your big break in “Encantadia?”
Mixed feelings. But I’m more excited to show the public what we worked hard for.
What was the best advice that your mentor, German Moreno, gave you?
Never forget the people who helped me along the way…to stay humble and give my all in every project.
What’s your most memorable moment with Kuya Germs?
When he gamely joined me and other young stars to dance hip-hop onstage.
What’s the toughest part of being a millennial?
Since we’re all into social media, it’s a struggle to deal with bashers.
