“The BFG” is the first Disney film to be directed by the iconic Steven Spielberg. The movie version of Roald Dahl’s magical childhood stars Mark Rylance as the Big Friendly Giant and Ruby Barnhill as the orphan who befriends him and is swept away into a world of rampaging giants!

Meet the super villains


In David Ayer’s “Suicide Squad,” the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated super villains are assembled by the US government to defeat an enigmatic and all-powerful entity. They include Deadshot (Will Smith), the best marksman in the world; Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), a psychologist who treats the criminally insane; Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), who uses electrically charged boomerangs to deadly effect, and Slipknot (Adam Beach), a master in the use of elaborate ropes. Opens on Aug. 4.

‘Jason Bourne’


Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass reunite for “Jason Bourne,” the latest chapter of their hit film franchise, in which the $100-million “human weapon” is flushed out of hiding to confront an evil organization more dangerous than any individual government. Damon’s costars include Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander. Starts its run on July 27.

Sinister side of social media

Emma Roberts and Dave Franco star in “Nerve,” a timely, edge-of-your-seat thriller that exposes the seductive power of social media. It revolves around young thrill-seeking players who accept increasingly risky dares from anonymous watchers to win valuable rewards.

Time to ‘Shake, Rattle and Pour’

TGIFriday’s bartenders compete in the 21st “Shake, Rattle and Pour” competition on July 20 at the Midtown Atrium, Robinsons Place Manila.

Last year, Rizza “The Apprentice” Umlas won the TGIFriday’s nationwide and Asian bartending competition. Later, she was adjudged Grand Prize winner at the World Bartending Championship held in Dallas, Texas.

‘Star Trek Beyond’

After two “Star Trek” films in the director’s chair, JJ Abrams now transfers filmmaking duties for “Star Trek Beyond” to Justin Lin, a veteran of the “Fast and Furious” franchise. The new film takes the sci-fi adventure back to the far-flung reaches of the galaxy, and stars John Cho, Simon Peg, Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana.

The new “Ghostbusters” film by director Paul Feig has been digitally remastered into the immersive Imax 3D format and released to Philippine Imax theaters, simultaneous with its nationwide run in 2D and 3D cinemas. The film topbills Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth.
