Stars in the news

ALONZO. New film in the works.

NOTEWORTHY stellar events and developments this month include a new film for Bea Alonzo (with Gerald Anderson), to be megged by Dan Villegas; Paul Soriano’s “Dukot” kidnap drama with stars like Enrique Gil and Ricky Davao; a new drama series, “The Greatest Love,” that pays tribute to mothers (topbilling Sylvia Sanchez).

We should also take prompt advantage of the fact that Lav Diaz’s acclaimed “indie epic” “Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis” is now available for pay-per-view access on Sky Cable, until July 24. (Call SkyCable or visit mysky.com.ph/hele.)

Optimistic Lindsay

Elsewhere: “Diehard” fans of former child star Lindsay Lohan will be heartened to know that the long and troubled chapter in her personal and professional life appears to finally be over. Lohan has just turned 30, and is optimistic about the future because she seems to have graduated from her string of rehab sessions.

She has also resumed her performing career, moved to London, and has found a new love. Lindsay’s Russian lover, Egor, may be seven years younger than she is, but is a very successful and wealthy entrepreneur, so things are looking up, despite the age “issue.”

In addition, the fact that she’s now doing well in London feels “right” for Lindsay, since she first became popular playing identical twins in “Parent Trap” and one of the siblings she portrayed in that fun flick was “true Brit!”

Rebel’s ‘innate advantage’

Things are similarly coming up roses for Rebel Wilson’s career—and observers partly credit her success to her ability to underscore and add to her “innate advantage” as a “uniquely appealing” performer.

After translating all of that “expert” verbiage, we see what they mean: She’s a hit because she’s big in physique and talent. Which is why she’s not about to go on a diet anytime soon!

In fact, even as other female stars starve themselves to lose weight, Rebel is bent on looking even “more substantial”—to get more and louder laughs!

New Annie

On the local performing scene, the big stellar discovery this month is young Krystal Brimner, who copped the title role in the latest staging of the musical, “Annie,” at resorts World starting this September.

Krystal is feisty, pretty and gifted with a strong, “belting” singing voice, so she should go places. In fact, she already has: Even before “Annie,” she already made waves in the indie movie that starred John Lloyd Cruz and Meryl Soriano, “Honor The Father.” She played their daughter and won a best child actor award for her acutely credible and felt portrayal!
