My thoughts on Morissette Amon

Morissette Amon

When you have a singer like Morissette Amon who has a very versatile singing voice and has become a seasoned performer by joining numerous talent reality search shows and who has likewise provided some of the most memorable live performances in recent memory, those three facts alone make music aficionados more hopeful and optimistic for what tomorrow brings when it comes to the new local artists that we will have around for quite some time.

When you think of what the landscape of OPM will be in the not-so-distant future, there is no question that Morissette Amon will be a key player in the coming decade. One of the strongest indicators in predicting if any artist will be a mainstay or not is the quality of their songs, of course. For me, it was Morissette Amon’s single “Diamante” that puts her in this category of being a key player in the near future. Her single “Diamante” got my attention the most when compared to even her previous singles released in the last few years. This single shows her artistic growth is in the right direction and when that happens only good things will come her way.

Another aspect I would like to discuss is Morissette Amon’s vocal registry which is flawless. A perfect illustration of this quality she has is in her single “Diamante” wherein she was able to hit the bottommost note to the uppermost note of the song each time, and even in the live versions of the song, she does the same thing. For now, “Diamante” is my favourite OPM song because it is compelling proof to me of how complete a singer she is; it appears she has already all the necessary “tools” of the trade. Plus, this is one of those newer local songs that I can say is really music to my ears–so pleasant and enjoyable to listen to, it is–fluid, lucid, and hits all the right spots, thanks to her singing.

FEATURED STORIES

Listening to “Diamante”, I also can’t but help hear “echoes” of a then very young Sarah Geronimo in it, she with that awe-inspiring vocal range, another strength that Morissette Amon possesses, too. As, indeed, for a minute there while listening to the said single, I was transported back to a different time. My comparison of Morissette Amon to Sarah Geronimo here is not an initial impression because that impression remains as I end up making the same ruling no matter how many more times I listen to “Diamante” as that striking similarity in Morissette Amon’s singing style she utilizes–specifically for this single–is nearly identical to that of the biggest hits from Sarah Geronimo’s first studio album from the early 2000’s.

Performing amped-up songs like this will serve Morissette Amon well especially in concerts and major music events being that the stage is often shared with other artists and she certainly would want to get the crowd on their feet and wake them up from boring and lackluster performances. You can put this song on the top of the set list or somewhere in the middle as it will get an immediate reaction from her fans and casual listeners who are familiar with the song.

Clearly, Morissette Amon is one of OPM’s more exciting singers to come around. She has proven this in the last few years. It goes without saying that she is a legitimate talent, as she does not belong to some overnight fad or some silly trend in OPM which does absolutely nothing to elevate the tastes of people in music.

To listen to and support talent that did not start out solely as a fad or part of a trend is always the correct way to go because it will help develop your musical tastes and further refine them in the process. As for the artist, it will add legitimacy to the artist if she first gets noticed for how she sings and not on what songs she decides to cover. Morissette Amon’s days of being tagged always to her time spent at ‘The Voice of the Philippines’ now seem so long ago. That is another indication right there of her artistic growth because she has not allowed her successful run in talent reality search shows to define who she is and what she will be. They were merely stepping stones for her to reach her dreams.

The best part about Morissette Amon is that she is still young and she will only get better over time. Just imagine what more she could be a few years from now in light of the artistic growth she progressively exhibits. Let us watch her continue to spread her wings !
