3 PH films in Spain
Two Filipino filmmakers will compete in this year’s Festival Internacional de Cine Filmadrid, ongoing in Spain until June 11. Lav Diaz’s “Ang Araw Bago ang Wakas” and Liryc de la Cruz’s “Sa Pagitan ng Pagdalaw at Paglimot” are vying for top honors in the fest’s main tilt.
The festival also chose De la Cruz as one of five filmmakers featured in the “Iconic Nightmare” exhibit at the Museo C.A.V. La Neomudejar, ongoing until June 13.
According to the fest’s website: “The exhibition reunites the audiovisual works of five artists whose common link is… Spain—[that is, artists from] territories once colonized by Spain. The exhibit’s aim is to offer a personal path, marked by the artistic concerns of each invited artist.”
De la Cruz will present a new multimedia film, “Ang Paghahanap sa Alaala ng Simula,” in the exhibit. The website describes De la Cruz’s work: “A dream within a nightmare… an examination of the historical and folkloric context of the unending search… [for] a lost indigenous identity.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
