Filmmaker Brillante Mendoza was emotional after the audience gave him and his actors a standing ovation at the premiere of his latest film, “Ma’ Rosa,” at the Cannes Film Festival in France.

“Ma’ Rosa” is about a poor woman who sells drugs on the side with her husband. It is up to their children to buy their freedom after they were arrested by corrupt policemen.
The film stars veteran actors Jaclyn Jose, Julio Diaz, Andy Eigenmann, Felix Roco, Jomari Angeles, Baron Geisler and Kristoffer King.

In 2009, Mendoza won the festival’s best director for the movie “Kinatay.”
