New lease on life for Louise delos Reyes’ career

Louise delos Reyes has not topbilled a soap opera in the past two years—a break too long for any actress trying to work her way up the show biz ladder.

After starring in the fantasy-drama series, “Kambal Sirena,” in 2014, Louise spent most of the following year playing one-off or supporting roles. And for a while, the 22-year-old talent found herself wondering where things went wrong for her.

“I felt I made some bad decisions, but I don’t want to have any regrets. Perhaps it was simply how things were meant to be,” the actress said in a recent pocket interview for GMA 7’s coming afternoon soap, “Magkaibang Mundo” (weekdays, starting May 23), which marks Louise’s return to lead actress status in a series.

Looking back, she said, the career lull wasn’t all that bad; it gave her much needed time to evaluate herself. “I had to look at things that worked for me and scrutinize the things that needed improvement,” she mused.

But more importantly, being away from it all ultimately made her realize how much she loves acting. “True, acting can be tiring at times. But at the end of the day, I’d rather act than stay home and watch someone else act,” said Louise, who was last seen in “My Faithful Husband” last year as part of the supporting cast, and has taken up fashion and lifestyle blogging as a hobby.

In “Magkaibang Mundo,” in which she’s paired with Juancho Triviño, Louise plays a woman who was raised like a princess by a seemingly perfect family, but a tragic turn of events forces her character to work as a maid.

As she takes on this latest project, Louise vowed not to focus too much on things that distracted her in the past. She used to be in a relationship with fellow GMA 7 talent Enzo Pineda. “I was very vocal about my personal life,” she said. “This time, I want to show that there’s more to me than my love life.”

While it may seem as if she’s playing catch-up with other talents who had stepped up in her absence, Louise doesn’t see it that way. “I just want to savor every project,” she explained. “I want to be a better actress and win an acting trophy.”
