“I LIKE challenges, because I’m a very competitive person,” said Elmo Magalona on the prospect of being pitted against many other aspiring stars in ABS-CBN’s deep talent pool. The 21-year-old celebrity transferred to the Kapamilya network in November last year.

“When someone tells me that I can’t do this or that, I get even more determined to prove them wrong,” he told reporters at the recent launch of Jollibee’s centralized, nationwide delivery hotline, #8-7000. Elmo was joined in the event by fellow endorsers, Sarah Geronimo and JK Labajo, who both performed song numbers.

He did admit, however, that pressure is something that can’t be completely avoided. “I don’t let the bad stuff get the better of me,” added Elmo, who’s part of the coming romantic drama series, “Born for You,” where he’s paired with Janella Salvador. “I’m in a good place right now, and I want to keep it that way.”

Elmo, whose father is the late rapper Francis Magalona, is currently in a relationship with GMA 7 star Janine Gutierrez, and everything, the actor related, has been “so far, so good.” And the fact that they work for competing networks isn’t an issue at all.

“We are vocal about our support for each other. We’re happy. We’re also thankful that we’re both busy these days,” Elmo said.
