Erik Bauserfeld, the actor who voiced the renowned Star Wars character Admiral Akbar, has died, his manager, Derek Maki, confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter on Monday. He was 93.
Coolwaters Productions announced that Bauersfeld passed away on April 3 (Sunday) at his home in Berkley, California, United States.
“Actor Erik Bauersfeld, known by Star Wars fans around the globe as the voice of Admiral Ackbar, has passed away,” the management’s statement mentioned. “His passing comes at the age of 93 and the cause was natural causes. Erik will be deeply missed by his family here at Coolwaters and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
The veteran voice talent and radio drama producer will be remembered for voicing the Rebel Alliance commander.
His famous line was “It’s a trap” from the 1987 Star Wars series Return of the Jedi when the alliance’s destiny dimmed during the demise of the Death Star fleet attack. He also voiced Bib Fortuna, Jabba the Hut’s wicked assistant, in the same movie. The famous movie line gave birth to a myriad of internet memes.
Akbar and Bauersfeld returned as the chief resistance leader in the 2015 sequel Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Other notable voice-over roles portrayed by Bauersfeld’s include Guillermo Del Toro’s film Crimson Peak in 2015 and Steven Spielberg’s film A.I. Artificial Intelligence, released in 2001. Gianna Francesca Catolico, INQUIRER.net
