The DC superhero movie “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” smashed Philippine box-office records as it earned P86.65 million during its opening day on Saturday, March 26.

The movie, which stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, has surpassed the opening day record of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” of P83.2 million.

Warner Bros. Pictures Philippines General Manager Francis Soliven attributed the record-breaking box-office figures to the work of director Zack Snyder and his cast.

“Anticipation for ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ has been building across the country and these incredible results are a testament to not only the enduring appeal of these global icons but the power of the epic cinematic showdown Zack Snyder and his brilliant cast and crew have delivered,” Soliven said.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the film’s incredible debut and strong word-of-mouth and repeat business promises to propel its success well into the season,” he added.

However, reviews of the film from critics are mixed.

Aside from Affleck, Cavill and Gadot, the film also featured Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter as Senator Finch. AJH/JE
