It’s Halloween! We’ve all had our share of tricks and treats in our lives.
As for me, the biggest trick I pulled off was when I pretended to be sick and even had myself hospitalized with dextrose and all just so my boyfriend back then would forgive me for a boo-boo I’ve done. Treat? I spent Valentine’s Day alone in the VIP suite of Marina Bay Sands in Singapore just for the thrill of it.
The tricks bring excitement and the treats give us fulfillment. Just like pain and pleasure, you can’t have one without the other.
That’s why there’s a little bit of Halloween every day of our lives. As we go about the masquerade, may we master the tricks and savor the treats.
MIRIAM QUIAMBAO: “I helped a friend leave a surprise box for her teen crush filled with feminine napkins. Treat? Trip to Paris with my best friend.”
DAIANA MENEZES: “I wore my dad’s clothes and put bigote with Pentel pen which I didn’t wipe off for a few days. I also bought a Superman mask which looks so real. My boyfriend GB is a big Superman fan. I wore it and when he opened the door, he almost had a heart attack. Treat: Trip to Rio de Janeiro during Halloween.”
SUZI ENTRATA-ABRERA: “I found a letter tucked in a book in our school library. It was from a man in London looking for a mail-order bride complete with a creepy picture. I put it in my friend’s bag. When she saw it, she freaked out and told our professor. Our prof wanted to launch some kind of investigation. I fessed up! Gladly, that friend is still my friend to this day. Treat? Going to Italy with my husband for our 10th anniversary.”
JOEY GENEROSO (Side A): “When I was still going steady with Girlie (my wife), I wanted to spend New Year with her and watch the fireworks in New York. But I had a show on New Year’s Eve in one of the hotels. So pinatid ko ang dalawang strings ng guitar ko and told the manager I didn’t bring extra strings so I could not perform. Good thing konti lang customers that night. Nag piped-in music na lang sila. Treat: I finally changed our Honda to a Montero. Although I seldom use it when it’s tough to find a parking place where my destination is. I’m a wise spender. I don’t replace stuff unless I can’t use it anymore.”
ALICE DIXSON: “Naughtiest prank: When I was 10, I hid in my sister’s cellar with my niece. We played house, told stories, ate all the sausage and cheese in the storage and hid from all the adults in the house until they got frantic looking for us. We got a scolding because they almost called the police when we emerged. The best treats are vacation trips.”
CHRISTIAN BAUTISTA: “I put chewing gum in my cousin’s hair. Treat? I bought myself an Hermes belt.”
MARCO ALCARAZ: “In high school, we used to put stones in the bags of our classmates so when they go home, mabigat ang bag nila. Treat: Holiday in the United States and Canada with my fiancee Lara.”
BAYANI AGBAYANI: “While my police friend and I were having a massage, I took the place of the masseuse while he was asleep. Kung ano-ano ang ginagawa kong masahe sa kanya. Hanggang ibaba ko yung shorts niya hanggang sakong. Sabi nya, ’wag niyo ho gawin yan pulis ako! Treat: I bought a Rolex watch. When I was a waiter, bilib ako sa mga customer namin na naka-Rolex. Parang napaka-accomplished nila. Kaya nung nagka pera na ko, yun ang isa sa una kong binili.”
