Television and movie director Wenn Deramas, known for his movies which broke box-office records, died on Monday of cardiac arrest.

He was 49-years-old.

“Box-office director Wenn Deramas dies due to cardiac arrest,” announced Ging Reyes, ABS-CBN news chief, on her Twitter account @gingreyes, citing the friend of Deramas, June Rufino.

Rufino later told ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) that the director went to Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City at 2 a.m. early Monday to see his sister who was rushed to the hospital.

Learning that his sibling had died, Deramas suffered the heart attack.

Rufino said that two years ago, the director suffered from an “almost heart attack” and had angioplasty last year.

Deramas was known for directing box-office comedy hits which include the “Ang Tanging Ina” series, “Petrang Kabayo,” “Sisterakas” “The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin,” “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy,” “The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin” and the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival entry and the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time, “Beauty and the Bestie.”

Vice Ganda, the star of the “Beauty and the Bestie,” brought his grief on the director’s death on social media.

“Isang napakalungkot na araw. Sagad hanggang buto ang lungkot. Paalam Direk Wenn. Mahal na mahal kita,” Vice Ganda said on Twitter.

Other celebrities such as Anne Curtis and Dingdong Avanzado expressed their shock on the news on their social media accounts.

Deramas graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He then started his career in the entertainment industry as a production assistant.

He is also known for directing memorable television dramas such as “Mula Sa Puso,” “Saan Ka Man Naroroon,” “Sa Dulo Ng Walang Hanggan,” and “Marina.”

His remains will be brought to Arlington Memorial Chapels, ANC reported.  AJH
