‘Teleseryes’ take viewers on a perplexing spin
KATHNIEL. Big reveal.
Melvin Cassion, veterinarian: “It’s amusing how teleserye plots are taking viewers on a perplexing spin. In ‘Pangako Sa ‘Yo,’ Angelo (Daniel Padilla) was distraught when he was told that he and Yna (Kathryn Bernardo) could be siblings. The ‘big reveal’ led to Angelo looking dazed and walking aimlessly for about four episodes.
“After learning that his biological father was Simon (Alex Medina), not Eduardo (Ian Veneracion), and that Claudia (Angelica Panganiban) was faking her amnesia, Angelo now makes sense of things and thinks clearly—just like that! He should have been delirious or hysterical at the very least.”
Other notes:
Maritess Duran, office employee: “Jericho Rosales really wants to stay long in show business. I admired him when he admitted that he has no problem accepting getting older. He won’t compete with younger stars, but he has his own set of skills that he tries to continually enhance. Other stars should be as positive as Jericho!”
Meanne Mijares, events planner: “I was appalled when I watched the trailer of ‘Love is Blind’ and heard Derek Ramsey’s character blurting out the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in a scene with Solenn Heusaff. (‘Jesus Christ! You’re so hot!’). It was blasphemous. His good Name should not be included in irreverent dialogue in films or TV programs.”
Ernest Isip, Jr., student: “After the much-publicized MMFF controversy regarding the disqualification of ‘Honor Thy Father’ in the best picture category, I hope that there’ll be changes in the selection process this year. I’d like to see quality films, not the usual commercial movies featuring the same box-office stars.
“Also, the festival should be handled by individuals who really know the local movie industry and aren’t in any way connected with producers of the official entries, to provide a level playing field for participants.”
Linda Zamora, housewife: “My wish list for this film year: That Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos reunite, preferably in a feel-good movie with comedic touches. I also want a follow-up film for Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza. I hope indie producers would cast performers other than the usual over-exposed actors. And, let’s put gay-themed films to rest!”
