Paulo Avelino finds JaDine’s closeness romantic

Paulo Avelino insisted that there was “something going on” between James Reid and Nadine Lustre, his costars in the top-rating soap series, “On the Wings of Love.”

Paulo, who plays Nadine’s boss in the series, said: “I don’t know what to call it specifically, but there’s really something to their closeness. It’s romantic, sometimes.”

Paulo is Simon, Leah’s strict and no-nonsense boss who’s secretly in love with her. James plays Clark, Leah’s husband. Leah’s relationship with Simon is the cause of Clark’s heartaches, as well as several cases of nasty online bashing for Paulo from JaDine die-hards.

“I always treat every project or role seriously. It doesn’t matter whether I’m the third wheel, or a supporting character—or just a warm body on the set. I will perform whatever is demanded of me for my character,” Paulo told reporters during the launch of Avon’s “Best of Beauty” campaign on Wednesday. Paulo is Avon’s ambassador for its new line of Black Suede fragrances for men.

“On the Wings of Love” is set to conclude its successful run this month. Paulo said ABS-CBN is cooking up another teleserye for him. “I don’t know when this will start airing. I’m also doing a film coproduced by Viva and Star Cinema,” he said, adding that the big-screen project will also feature Anne Curtis.

On the report that his ex-girlfriend LJ Reyes, mom of his son Aki, is now dating his namesake, Paolo Contis, the actor’s short but meaningful reply was: “I’m happy for them.”

Asked how he plans to celebrate Valentine’s Day, Paulo, who claims to be single, said he would be spending it on a plane going to the United States, where he will perform in a show for the Filipino community with fellow ABS-CBN artists, Maja Salvador and JC de Vera. “I’ll be in the company of a glass of champagne and some reading materials,” he shared with the Inquirer. “Wouldn’t it be better to treat every day as if it’s Valentine’s day?”

Paulo was equally mum on the issue of show biz celebrities endorsing politicians running in the coming May presidential elections. “I don’t mind endorsing someone I believe in, but at this point, I’d be glad to simply perform during their events. Part of our job as a show biz personality is to entertain the crowd,” he pointed out.
