Andre Paras stepping out of dad’s shadow

Andre Paras is stepping out of his dad Benjie Paras’ shadow. His love team with Barbie Forteza clicked in the afternoon soap “Half Sisters.” So the cute pair is all set to raise kilig (giddy) levels anew in GMA 7’s “That’s My Amboy” (weekdays after “Little Nanay”).

The romantic comedy is about the unusual working relationship of a hot matinee idol (Andre as Bryan) and his personal assistant (Barbie as Maru).

Join their adventures and misadventures as they journey from friendship to love. Fasten your heartstrings!

So there. Zip it and nip it!

My Q&A with Andre:

In what way are you and your brother, Kobe, alike and different?

Kobe and I are very different. He’s more athletic than me, and I am more of the energetic type of person. But of course we were raised in the same household, so our views when it comes to goals and family are our similarities.

What advice did your dad give you about show biz and girls?

On show biz, dad always reminds me to listen to my directors and to respect everyone on the set.

About girls, he told me I need to make sure they have a goal in life, that they put their career first—and also their family.

Is Barbie Forteza girlfriend material?

ANDRE Paras

Barbie is hardworking and super down-to-earth. For some guys, these may be the qualities that they’re looking for in a girl.

What turns you off in a girl?

If she doesn’t have self-respect or she sets aside her family.

What’s American and what’s Filipino in you?

What’s American about me is the pop culture that I follow. My Filipino side are my manners and probably my love for family and maintaining close ties with them.

Do you and Kobe have sibling rivalry?

Believe it or not, we don’t. We support each other in every endeavor.

What’s the best and toughest part of being the son of Benjie Paras?

The best part is that no matter how busy he is, my dad still finds time for our family. We can always talk to him any time we need him. He has never made me feel like he’s too famous or too successful to listen to anything that I want to consult about—be it big or small; he will always be “just dad.”

The toughest part was being compared to him when I was playing for UP (University of the Philippines).

Honestly, that made me feel uncomfortable. The circumstances were different. Even the way that he and I play are different, so I felt that direct comparison should not have been made!
