Lav Diaz film in HK-Asia film forum

Filipino director Lav Diaz’s film “When the Waves Are Gone” has been selected as one of the entries at the 14th Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), which will be held from March 14 to 16.

The HAF has garnered 31 film projects from 15 countries for this year’s edition, a record-breaking number of submissions.

Diaz was selected with other leading Asian filmmakers, including Taiwan’s Rene Liu, China’s Ning Hao, Vietnam’s Phan Dang Di, and Singapore’s Chan Pui Yin.

Diaz’s “Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis” (A Lullaby for the Sorrowful Mystery) which stars ABS-CBN actors Piolo Pascual and John Lloyd Cruz, was selected in the official competition at Berlin International Film Festival 2016.

His 2013 film “Norte: Hangganan ng Kasaysayan,” which premiered in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section, was also nominated for best international film at the Independent Spirit Awards in the US.

The 14th HAF will present a total of 13 awards amounting to HK$1,378,500, and including two new awards—Artention films awards and Wutianming post production awards.

The HAF is a film financing platform in Asia that brings together filmmakers with upcoming projects to Hong Kong for co-production ventures with top film financiers, producers, bankers, distributors and buyers. YG/IDL
