Character actor Menggie Cobarrubias recalls his experiences working on the set of Lav Diaz’s “Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis”: “Lav taught me that it’s possible to create a good film without throwing tantrums or experiencing physical or verbal abuse from a director. Throughout the shoot, everyone was happy; there was no tension. Once, I asked him what I should do in a scene, but he just let me be. By reading the script thoroughly, an actor should know what to do. The process was collaborative. Good thing, all my scenes were with Piolo (Pascual) and John Lloyd (Cruz), so there’s a big chance I won’t get edited out!”

It was Cobarrubias’s first time to work with Diaz. Bayani San Diego Jr.
