FILMMAKER Milo Sogueco, who’s also a board member of the MTRCB (Movie and Television Review and Classification Board), gives his opinion on the controversies that rocked the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF): ‘The goal is to come up with initiatives to improve the industry and uplift the morale of its workers. Perhaps taking off from MMFF’s successes, a number of festivals have been held in the country in recent years. As a filmmaker, I welcome this development as it gives us more venues for creative competitiveness and to share our stories with viewers. It may help to change the composition of the MMFF executive committee, to include filmmakers and other more relevant government agencies. Most importantly, there has to be a law requiring the exclusive exhibition of Filipino films during a substantial period of the yearólike in other countries. To have a significant impact, it should be no less than one month, with provisions for an increase.’ Bayani San Diego Jr.
