Sam Concepcion comes into his own

CONCEPCION. Versatility personified.

CONCEPCION. Versatility personified.

Kevin Asuncion, student: “As ‘You’re My Home’ demonstrates, Sam Concepcion is slowly coming into his own as an actor. He’s also doing well as a singer and dancer on ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar,’ which makes me wonder why he isn’t a bigger star than he is. —Is he too classy for the masa’s taste?”

Other notes:

Gerrah Aquino, NGO volunteer: “Karen Davila’s awkward interview with Alma Moreno had a lot of learning points, especially for those who want to run for public office. But, to me, the more instructive lesson was Ms Davila’s condescending manner in conducting the interview.”

‘Bombastic’ singing

Sarah Sioson, housewife: “I’m glad that Darren Espanto is busy with concerts and TV guestings. But, he should also experiment with songs that don’t require ‘bombastic’ singing all the time.

“Recently, I chanced upon him singing Fantasia Barrino’s ‘I Believe’ on TV, and noted that his performance felt very technical and lacked emotional connection.”

Ted Albano, televiewer: “One advantage of the Apec event is seeing our TV news anchors and field reporters like Kara David, Linda Jumilla and Vicky Morales garbed in Filipino-inspired dresses and barong.”

Lourdes Mandac: “Except for her occasional reunion concerts with the New Minstrels, we hardly hear anything about Louie Reyes. She is one of our country’s finest singers, so I hope that she gets a chance to do a solo concert here!”
