RAYA Martin’s “How to Disappear Completely”

Various Filipino films will be shown in Tokyo, Japan, from Oct. 31 to Nov. 3. Included in the lineup are Raya Martin’s “How to Disappear Completely,” Sherad Anthony Sanchez’s “Jungle Love,” Gym Lumbera’s “Anak Araw,” Dwein Baltazar’s “Mamay Umeng” and Timmy Harn’s “Ang Pagbabalat ng Ahas.”

The film series is called Rising Indies! Tokyo-Manila.

Also to be screened is “The Kalampag Tracking Agency,” which is described as a “curated program of films and video from the Philippines over the past 30 years.” Part of the program are works by Roxlee, Cesar Hernando, Tad Ermitaño, Jon Lazam, Tito & Tita, Martha Atienza, Yason Banal, RJ Leyran, Mel Bacani III, Miko Revereza, John Torres and Martin. Selected short films by Torres will also be screened after “Kalampag” on Nov. 1.

Screenings will be held in various “prestigious” venues, including the Athénée Français Cultural Center, Image Forum and the Film School of Tokyo.

The series is the Tokyo leg of a film exchange program that brought Japanese filmmakers Akira Ikeda and Mie Kurihara to Manila from Oct. 2 to 6.
