NORA Aunor plays a rock guitarist in latest TV series.
Award-winning actress Nora Aunor is excited to deviate from her usual heavy drama roles in “Little Nanay,” a new TV series on GMA 7.
In the prime-time show, Nora portrays Lola Annie Batongbuhay, a groovy rock guitarist who still plays gigs with a band at her old age. “I’ll be wearing bell-bottoms,” she said laughing at a recent press conference for “Little Nanay.”
“This is just a fun, light story,” she added. “I’ve missed doing comedies, especially since most of my previous projects have all been heavy dramas.”
“Little Nanay” reunites Nora with another veteran, Eddie Garcia, whom she worked with in the 1996 drama “Bakit May Kahapon Pa.” Eddie likewise directed Nora in the classic 1978 film “Atsay.”
“Eddie still makes me feel starstruck. I admire and respect him so much that I get shy when approaching him,” she said of Eddie, another Bicolano. “I hope I get the opportunity to do a movie with him again.”
Also top-billing “Little Nanay” are Kris Bernal, who takes on the role of Tinay, a 25-year-old with a learning disability, and Chlaui Malayao, who plays Annie’s daughter. Giving support to the younger Kapuso talents, she stressed, wasn’t an issue to her.
“I don’t need to be always cast in the lead role at this point in my career. I love helping new actors. It makes me happy,” said Nora, who works freelance at the moment. “I want to offer whatever I can in terms of acting.”
Directed by Ricky Davao, “Little Nanay” will air weeknights starting Nov. 16.
Presidential bet
While Nora has already pledged to support Sen. Grace Poe’s presidential bid in next year’s election, the acclaimed actress is still unsure if she would endorse a vice presidential candidate.
This despite four of the known aspirants are her fellow Bicolanos, namely: Senators Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Antonio Trillanes IV and Gringo Honasan, and Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo.
“I can’t say anything yet. It’s hard to endorse someone you don’t know very well; you’ll be saying all these things about the person, without actually knowing if they’re true,” she told reporters at the same media gathering.
There’s no such doubt, however, when it comes to her loyalty to her presidential bet. The seasoned actress, dubbed the Superstar, stressed that she would back Senator Grace without expecting anything in return.
“I believe and trust that she will do good things for the country, and, hopefully, the entertainment industry,” she said of the politician, whose father Fernando Poe Jr., was one of her closest friends in show biz. “I was able to talk to her recently.”
