Earl Arbas, student: “Denise Laurel’s performance as Lea Salonga on ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar’ was noteworthy, because she worked hard at approximating the acclaimed singer’s looks and bell-like singing voice—and succeeded big time!
“For a while, I thought I was really watching Lea—Denise was that effective and believable! It truly doesn’t hurt when the contestant is also a good singer and, in Denise’s case, a fine actress!”
Other notes:
Marisse Roberto, businesswoman: “I was finally able to watch ‘Heneral Luna’ with much pride and wishful thinking that, because of its commercial and critical success, other producers will strive to make movies that are better than those shown at the Metro Manila Film Festival.”
Kristine Bonus, banker: “I admire ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar’s’ talented contestants, for their hard work in impersonating celebrities. However, I find the judges much too kind and polite—an approach that isn’t helping contestants improve!”
Lorna Manila, development planner: “I’ve been wanting to watch the long-running original Filipino musical, ‘Rak of Aegis’—but, it remains a dream, because I live outside Metro Manila. Is it possible for the production to go on a national tour, so theatergoers from the province can also ‘experience’ it?”
Ted Albano, office manager: “When will talent casters realize that appropriate casting is important for a teleserye to succeed? I cringe each time an actor delivers lines in crooked or faulty English. Dramatic scenes unintentionally turn comedic when actors mispronounce words or struggle in delivering their English lines!”
