Our vegetarian friends have interesting tales to tell. Here are a few:

A friend related how her relatives reacted the first time they found out that she wanted to become a vegetarian. Her uncle, a doctor, warned her, “If you don’t eat meat, you’ll get sick and die!”

She replied, “Don’t worry, Uncle. I’ll make sure I won’t die being a vegetarian.” My friend has been a vegetarian for 40 years now—even her children were raised as vegetarians!

Another story: A vegetarian ordered pizza with pepperoni—but, he was shocked to find meat on his pizza. The waiter reasoned, “The pepperoni is the meat, sir!” He replied, “I thought pepperoni meant pepper!”

FEATURED STORIES

Sometimes, it’s difficult to explain what a vegetarian consumes. Some of them have “developed” their unique answers to explain their diet—like, “I don’t eat anything with eyes—or anything with a face!”

Another vegetarian friend received a gift from her Chinese visitor. When she examined the plastic packet, it had a whitish object inside. After reading its ingredients, she said, “This is jellyfish!” Her guest said, “That’s OK—that is also vegetarian!”

Nobel Peace Prize winner Albert Schweitzer was also a vegetarian, and used to pray, “Lord, please protect all those that breathe!”
