Actor Piolo Pascual will definitely endorse a politician in the 2016 national elections but admitted that he is still carefully choosing whom to endorse.
“I’m still weighing things,” Pascual said in a press conference on Tuesday.
He said next year’s election is “crucial” for our country, and he wants to use his influence to campaign for the right candidate.
“I wanna be able to use my influence para at least magamit naman natin yung tamang paraan ng pagkakampanya sa gusto natin (so that at least we can use it for good in campaigning for someone we believe in),” he said.
The actor said he has been having dinners with presidentiables to hear their platform of government.
“I would wanna hear them out first. And I wanna use this influence that I have to campaign for the right person,” he said.
“Lahat sila naman may magagandang adhikain pero ang importante talaga yung tama so wala pa ko kinikilingan kung sino,” he added.
(All of them have good aspirations, but what’s right is more important, so I don’t have anyone specific in mind just yet.)
He said endorsing a politician would be his “personal decision.”
“There’s a corporate responsibility… But it’s a personal decision, so I would exercise my right when it comes to this,” he said.
When asked what qualities he wanted for our next leaders, he said he would campaign for a leader who is not corrupt.
“’Wag lang corrupt. ‘Wag lang corrupt kasi pagod na tayo sa mga corrupt,” he said.
(Someone who isn’t corrupt because we’re tired of those who are corrupt.)
“(Dapat) yung may tapang at yung may paninindigan at yung kayang ipaglaban yung bansa kahit ikamatay niya,” he said.
(Someone who is brave, who stands for what is right, and is able to fight for the country to the death.)
He said it’s time for the public to make a stand to protect their rights and country through practicing their right to vote.
“It’s been happening (corruption) for the longest time so it’s time for us to stand and really protect our rights and our country also,” he said. NC/JE
