NEW YORK — Britain has garnered a leading seven International Emmy nominations, including best actress and actor nods for Sheridan Smith and Rafe Spall.
Smith is nominated for her role in “Cilla” about the rise to fame of British pop singer and TV personality Cilla Black, who died in August in Spain.
Spall’s nomination comes for his role opposite Jon Hamm in the techno-thriller “White Christmas,” the holiday special of the anthology series “Black Mirror.”
Brazil received four nominations, including two apiece for “Doce de Mae”(best comedy and actress Fernanda Montenegro) and “Psi”(best drama and actor Emilio de Mello).
A total of 40 nominees from 19 countries in 10 categories were announced Monday by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
