Feisty balance of sass and class

SANTOS. Gutsy portrayal.

SANTOS. Gutsy portrayal.

Cookie Tiglao, licensed Zumba instructor: “I’ve always disliked teleserye antagonists. However, in GMA 7’s ‘Buena Familia,’ I’ve taken a liking to Olga, the diva portrayed by Aicelle Santos, who gives her character a feisty balance of sass and class. She’s so compelling that you just want to give her a hug, out of pity, despite her penchant for maltreating her PA, played by Julie Anne San Jose.

“Local TV needs more ‘laudable’ bad guys and gals played by the gutsy likes of Aicelle—now, that would make our televiewing more interesting!”

Other notes:

Bem Mendez, televiewer: “Wally Bayola must be doing something right. The comedian, who almost lost his career after a sex-video scandal, is enjoying a second wind in his career via ‘Eat Bulaga’s’ hugely popular kalyeserye. Aside from AlDub and Wally, the rest of the ensemble provide the right backdrop that complements the wacky romance.”

Positive reviews

Joshua Rivera, student: “There are lessons to learn from the positive reviews garnered by ‘Heneral Luna,’ which has revived moviegoers’ interest in historical films. The challenge to hurdle is to retell a well-known tale in a compelling and less preachy manner. Producers can take their cue from ‘Luna’—there are many other stories about historical figures that deserve to be told.”

Nan de Guzman, HR officer: “I was pleasantly surprised by the potent May-December chemistry between Albert Martinez and Yen Santos in ‘All of Me.’ It’d be refreshing to see other ‘unique’ tandems that defy trite teleserye conventions.”
