When water saves–and destroys

It’s wonderful to see rivers and brooks flowing during the rainy season. Streams and the waves of the ocean make relaxing sounds. Here are proverbs about bodies of water that come with indelible lessons:

Little brooks make great rivers. —French proverb (Small efforts put together can create big changes.)

Deep rivers move with silent majesty, shallow brooks are noisy. —Danish (Wise people speak deeply about valuable issues. Superficial people engage in nonsensical chatting and gossip.)

Though rivers flow into it, the sea never overflows. —Chinese (The mind of a sage is undisturbed by the incessant flow of thoughts and feelings—and the world’s anxieties.)

A little rain each day will fill the rivers to overflowing. —Liberian (Little blessings we receive from the Supreme Being can enrich our lives and fill our hearts with love.)

Destroy a country, but its mountains and rivers remain. —Japanese (The economic assets of a nation can depreciate, but Mother Nature’s riches can sustain the people in times of disaster.)

We’re many rivers from the same water. —Sicilian (We’re all spirit souls who come from the Supreme Soul.)
