This Poe-Escudero tandem is all set

This Poe-Escudero tandem is all set…Lovi Poe and Heart Evangelista, that is.

Interestingly, the two lead stars of GMA 7’s coming prime-time series, “Beautiful Strangers,” are related to Senators Grace Poe and Chiz Escudero, who are rumored to be teaming up for the 2016 presidential election. Grace is Lovi’s half-sister, and Chiz, Heart’s husband.

Maybe it was planned or maybe they were just quick on their feet, but using the curious coincidence to promote their new soap was kind of clever. Asked if Poe-Escudero was a done deal, Lovi and Heart, in separate interviews at a recent press conference, said something along the lines of, “Yes, on Aug. 10!”

That, of course, is today, the premiere date of “Beautiful Strangers,” which is directed by Albert Langitan, and stars Rocco Nacino, Benjamin Alves, Dina Bonnevie, Christopher de Leon and others.

Lovi (Joyce) and Heart (Kristine) are friends-turned-bitter enemies in a story that centers on love and vengeance, with a dash of amnesia.

But, turning serious, Lovi and Heart readily expressed their support for Senators Grace and Chiz, should they end up running together.

Supportive sis

“I’ll always be here for Ate; I’ll definitely help her if she asks for it. I’ll keep praying for her and I hope she makes the right decisions. I’m sure Papa (the late Fernando Poe Jr.) is watching over her,” Lovi said, adding that she’s happy to know that a lot of people are clamoring for her sister to seek higher office.

HEART Evangelista (left) and Lovi Poe have just launched their own campaign—on television, that is.

The 26-year-old actress also believes that Senator Grace possesses the qualities needed to be a good leader. “She’s a good person, has a heart and is very intelligent,” Lovi said.

Though she vowed to always support her husband, Heart jested that she wouldn’t be caught singing and dancing onstage, during campaign sorties. “We’re aware of that concept, but we’re not too keen on doing that,” she said, laughing. “I’ll be there as a wife—if it does happen.”

Heart, who married Senator Chiz in February this year, related that her husband does talk to her about politics, but that she doesn’t want to be an epal (intrusive) wife. “I really don’t want to meddle, especially since I’m an actress,” Heart said. “But whatever his plans are, I’m sure he has thought them over carefully.”

On the possibility of her being the nation’s First Lady, the 30-year-old actress balked. “I can’t and don’t think about that,” Heart said, shaking her head. She, however, acknowledged the fact that things could change drastically in the coming months.

“Right now he’s been very busy, so I try not to ask him too many questions.”
